Fire trucks have always made me get a little teary eyed. I know, I know, this is incredibly odd to say the least.
In the same way some folks tear up during classic old movies, and others during the national anthem, even more perhaps during Hallmark commercials, I tear up when I see a fire truck come racing by, lights and sirens on, in route to help rescue, sooth, or defend someone.
This fact is not aided by my somewhat irrational surge of pregnancy hormones of late. Try explaining to your excited five year old son why Mommy is sobbing in the front seat with the car barely pulled off the road, just out of the way of the fiery red rescue vehicles. It's getting a bit ridiculous.
Today Marin and Sonoma County Firefighters have joined ranks and will spend the day, sirens blaring, raising money for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation . A relay of trucks will make over 30 stops from Healdsburg to Sausalito to gathering as much money as possible to support this wonderful cause. Oh great, now I'm in trouble!
Named for 8 year old Alisa Ann Ruch who was killed in a backyard BBQ accident 11 years ago, Marin and Sonoma firefighters hope to raise money and awareness about fire safety for kids.
Benefiting a summer camp for burn victims, todays fund raiser is surely a worthy cause. SO pack a few extra bills in your pocket, and be prepared for the tears to flow!
And me, plan on finding me on the side of the road today - sobbing - there are going to be a lot of firetrucks!
